Why aren’t TTN members from other chapters able to join?
The Caring Collaborative is a demonstration project funded by the New York State Health Foundation. New York City was chosen as the pilot site to test the model and concepts. As part of the work underwritten by the grant, we are developing “How To” manuals and plan to make these available to other TTN chapters in late 2009.

Is there a fee to join the Caring Collaborative?
Yes, there is a $50 fee to join.

What is a Time Bank?
A Time Bank is a transaction based system that allows members to help others and themselves at the same time. The CC time bank database facilitates the exchange of practical help, support and information among TTN members by recording hours used and hours given.

What if I don’t have any hours in my account – and I need help?
Not to worry; “debt” -- use of the Caring Collaborative -- is highly encouraged.

What services do members offer through the Caring Collaborative?
CC members can access practical help including accompaniment to a medical procedure; note taking during a conversation with a medical provider; escort home from a hospital stay; picking up a prescription; shopping for groceries; returning library books; and companionship during recuperation from an illness.

In addition, members who have encountered specific medical conditions – either themselves or as caretakers – stand ready to discuss, on a confidential basis, their experiences. Members will also share the names of healthcare providers who have been helpful – from oncologists to urologists, acupuncturists and home health aides.

Is help available 24 hours a day?
No, the Caring Collaborative is not designed for emergency care. The Time Bank manager returns calls within 24 hours, but lead time will be required to coordinate services.

Who can access the information I am willing to share about my medical experiences?
The CC Time Bank is a closed-access system. Only the CC Time Bank project director and the manager have access to information stored in the time bank. Confidentiality is promised to all participants.
